Makers FAQs

Who is BenchConnect for?

BenchConnect is for woodworkers, furniture makers, hobbyists, students, and independent makers who need access to proper workshop space but don’t want the cost or commitment of renting their own studio.

Do I need to be a professional woodworker?

No. BenchConnect is open to makers at different stages — from beginners to professionals. Some workshops may set minimum experience levels, which will be made clear before you book.

How much does it cost to rent a bench?

Prices are set by the workshop host and typically range from day rates to weekly rates, depending on the space, tools available, and location. You’ll see pricing clearly before sending a booking request.

What tools will I have access to?

This depends on the workshop. Some hosts allow access to specific tools or machines, while others offer bench-only space. Tool access and rules will always be clear before you book.

Do I need my own insurance?

During the pilot phase, makers are expected to follow workshop safety rules and may be asked about experience level. Any specific insurance or safety requirements will be clearly communicated before a booking is confirmed.

Can I book short-term or one-off sessions?

Yes. BenchConnect is designed for flexible access — day or weekly bookings, without long-term contracts.

What happens after I sign up for early access?

Once you register your interest, we’ll contact you directly to understand your needs and help match you with suitable bench space as it becomes available in your area.

Where is BenchConnect available?

The pilot is currently focused on Kent and London, with plans to expand to other regions in the future.

No commitment — we’ll help you find a suitable workshop.
